Pralhad Joshi Takes Additional Charge Of Education Ministry

New Delhi,July 26: Union Minister Pralhad Joshi was on Saturday given the additional charge of the Ministry of Education following the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. The decision comes amid nationwide protests over alleged examination paper leaks.

An official communiqué from Rashtrapati Bhavan said President Droupadi Murmu accepted Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation from the Union Council of Ministers with immediate effect on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The resignation was accepted under Article 75(2) of the Constitution.

The President also entrusted Pralhad Joshi with the additional charge of the Ministry of Education while he continues to serve as Union Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs.

Pradhan’s resignation follows widespread protests by students over alleged paper leaks in several competitive examinations, which brought the Education Ministry under intense public and political scrutiny.

At a joint press conference on Saturday, Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda and Cockroach Janata Party leader Saurav Das appealed to students to end their protests, stating that the government had accepted all their demands.

Pralhad Joshi, a senior Cabinet Minister, will now oversee the Education Ministry in addition to his existing responsibilities. Officials said the arrangement is intended to ensure continuity in the ministry’s functioning until further decisions are taken.

The President’s communiqué stated that the new arrangement takes effect immediately. Any long term changes to the Education Ministry are expected to be announced later.
