Private Medical Colleges in Karimnagar Accused of Forced Fee Collection

Hyderabad: Private medical colleges in Telangana’s Karimnagar district have come under serious allegations of forced fee collection and violation of government regulations, triggering strong protests from students and parents.

According to reports, several MBBS students and their parents have accused college managements of collecting excess fees beyond the prescribed norms and misusing bank guarantee cheques. The allegations come despite existing government orders and Fee Regulatory Committee guidelines governing medical education fees in the state.

Parents claim that some colleges are charging fees for five years instead of the mandated four-and-a-half-year MBBS course duration, resulting in an additional financial burden of ₹6 lakh for B-category students and up to ₹12 lakh for C-category students.

They further allege that institutions are pressuring students using bank guarantee cheques and issuing legal notices. In some cases, parents claim that hall tickets for examinations have been withheld when fee-related disputes arise.

The Fee Regulatory Committee guidelines and Government Order 106 reportedly state that fees should be collected strictly for the approved course duration. However, parents allege that certain private colleges are disregarding these rules.

The issue has sparked protests from the Medico Parents Association, which has approached Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences seeking intervention. However, parents say no concrete action has been taken so far.

Association representatives have demanded immediate steps to stop what they describe as arbitrary and coercive fee collection practices. They also allege that some colleges are functioning like “parallel systems,” ignoring regulatory authorities and intimidating students and families.

Parents have urged the Telangana government and university officials to intervene urgently, regulate fee collection strictly, and ensure protection for medical students from alleged exploitation.

The controversy has reignited concerns over fee regulation in private medical education in Telangana, with growing calls for stronger enforcement and accountability.
