Hyderabad, March 30: The Congress party has decided to wage a direct fight against the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) while launching a series of agitations against the TRS Government in Telangana State.
The decision was taken in the meeting of TPCC Minorities Department Executive Committee held in Indira Bhavan in Gandhi Bhavan premises on Wednesday. The meeting, chaired by TPCC Minorities Dept Chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail, was attended by AICC Minorities Dept Incharge Farhan Azmi, TPCC General Secretary Prem Lal, Hyderabad Incharge for Congress membership drive Dr Rohin Reddy, TPCC OBC Dept Chairman Srikanth Goud and other leaders.
Addressing the meeting Farhan Azmi made it clear that there won’t be any change in the leadership of the TPCC Minorities Dept and the present body would continue till the next elections. He asked Shaik Abdullah Sohail to finalise the appointment of district-level and other bodies of the Minorities Department.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Abdullah Sohail informed that detailed discussions were held on four major issues which included membership drive and agitations to be held in near future. He said that there has been a tremendous response to the Congress membership drive across Telangana State, especially among the minorities. He said an unprecedented number of people have joined the Congress party from the Hyderabad and Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituencies. He said that the party has decided to wage a strong fight against the MIM in the Old City.
“MIM leadership has been causing huge damage to the Congress party and other secular forces across India. There is no doubt that MIM is acting like the B-Team of BJP and Sangh Parivar. This has been proved in the various elections including the recently concluded Assembly elections of Uttar Pradesh. As a political party, MIM is free to contest elections from any place in the country. However, MIM leadership is contesting polls in selective constituencies with the sole intention of polarising the elections to benefit the BJP. Now we’ve decided to take on MIM in its stronghold,” he informed.
Abdullah Sohail said that a decision has been taken to conduct a Padayatra from Charminar to Gandhi Bhavan on minorities’ issues in May this year (after Eid-ul-Fitr). Further, he said a series of public meetings are proposed to be held in all districts of Telangana from June-July 2022. “We will also hold public meetings in all Assembly constituencies of Hyderabad. We’ve decided to invite AICC General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi to one of the meetings to be held in the Old City,” he said.
He also informed that the Congress party would also organise a massive Iftar party in the month of Ramzan. A committee has been formed to finalise the dates, venue and other arrangements. Similarly, he said separate committees have been formed to make preparations for the proposed Padayatra and public meetings. He said it has been decided to organise Eid Milap in Nizamabad.
Abdullah Sohail said that the minorities in Telangana remained neglected under the TRS regime. Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao cheated the Muslims on the promise of a 12% reservation and other assurances. As against KCR’s claims of him being a secular leader, his government is responsible for the illegal demolition of six mosques in Telangana. Almost 75-80% of minority institutions were shut down after TRS came to power in 2014. While CM KCR is trying to create hype around minorities’ residential schools, TRS Govt has shut down thousands of schools in the minority-concentrated slum areas. He said that the dropout rate has reached an all-time high not only in primary and secondary education levels but also in higher education. He said lakhs of minority students were forced to discontinue their higher studies due to non-payment of scholarships and Fee Reimbursement.
“TPCC Minorities Dept will conduct an aggressive campaign in the form of public meetings, rallies and other modes to expose the failures of KCR Govt. We will make extensive use of social media to reach the masses and ensure that the minority communities re-connect with the Congress party,” he said. (Maxim news)
