According to police, the incident occurred around 11.30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. The accused entered the Puranapul Darwaza gateway and damaged a flexi banner and a plaster of Paris idol placed in the temple verandah. However, police clarified that the suspect did not enter the sanctum sanctorum. They also confirmed that the main idol inside the temple remained untouched.

Soon after the damage came to light, tension rose in the area. Meanwhile, a mob of around 300 people gathered near the temple. The crowd vandalised a nearby religious structure.
