Putin Praises Modi’s Ideas to End Ukraine War

New Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to promote an end to the Ukraine war, saying Modi has “very good ideas” for finding mutually acceptable solutions to the conflict.

Speaking at the Valdai Discussion Club forum in Moscow on Thursday, Putin said Modi had consistently raised the issue of ending the conflict despite India’s close relations with Russia.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is one of those world leaders who, despite our very good and even friendly relations, personal good relations, constantly raises the question and asks the question about putting an end to the conflict in Ukraine,” Putin said.

Putin said Modi had shown a strong interest in finding a resolution and described his approach as neutral while seeking an end to the conflict.

“He has an avid interest and very good ideas aimed at finding mutually acceptable solutions,” Putin said. “We are thankful to the Prime Minister for his ideas.”

Modi Has Repeatedly Called for Dialogue and Diplomacy

Modi has consistently advocated dialogue and diplomacy as the means to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which began in February 2022.

During his meeting with Putin on September 11, Modi reiterated India’s position that dialogue and diplomacy should guide efforts to resolve conflicts.

“We have to move from a situation of ‘endless war’ to ‘end of war’,” Modi said, according to the statement provided in the source material.

He also said India supported peaceful methods to address the situation and described peace as a shared concern for humanity.

Modi has conveyed a similar message during his meetings with both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

In 2022, Modi told Putin that “this is not an era of war” and stressed the importance of diplomacy and dialogue.

India has maintained its engagement with both Russia and Ukraine while calling for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Modi has also repeatedly emphasised the need to address the consequences of the war through diplomatic efforts.

Putin’s latest remarks highlight Moscow’s acknowledgement of Modi’s continued calls for dialogue, while India’s stated position remains focused on diplomacy and a peaceful resolution.
