Hyderabad, Aug 5 (Maxim News): Two time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for her ambitious Centre of Sports Excellence at Arilova in Visakhapatnam, marking the beginning of a world class sports academy aimed at nurturing future champions.
Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh performed the Bhumi Puja in the presence of Sindhu, Sports Minister, MLAs, and other dignitaries.
The academy is expected to become operational by 2028 and will initially promote seven different sports, providing world class coaching, training facilities, and scientific support for young athletes.
Sindhu Aims to Give Back to Sports
Speaking after the foundation ceremony, Sindhu said the project is her way of giving back to sports after spending more than a decade representing India at the highest level.
“I am very happy and excited that the foundation stone has been laid. This project gives me immense satisfaction. I have been given a timeline of 2028, and I look forward to building a world class sports institute,” she said.
Sindhu, who serves as a Deputy Collector in the Andhra Pradesh Government, said the state government allotted land for the academy. She thanked the government for supporting her vision of developing young sporting talent.
She said sports had transformed her life and inspired her to create opportunities for the next generation.
World Class Training Across Seven Sports
Sindhu said the Centre of Sports Excellence will focus on identifying talented children at an early age and providing them with professional coaching, modern infrastructure, and sports science support.
She explained that children would initially get exposure to multiple sports before choosing one discipline based on their strengths and abilities.
The academy will employ experienced coaches, fitness experts, and specialists to help athletes develop technically, physically, and mentally.
Sindhu said every athlete progresses differently, and success requires patience, belief, and continuous support.
Focus on Building Future Champions
The badminton star said she understands the challenges athletes face because of her own journey in international sport. She added that while not every athlete becomes an Olympic champion, every player deserves the right guidance and encouragement.
She urged young athletes to remain determined despite setbacks.
“Life brings more losses than victories. Every defeat teaches a lesson and makes you stronger. Never lose hope and always believe in yourself,” she said.
Sindhu expressed hope that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu would attend the academy’s grand inauguration in 2028. She said the project, with support from the Andhra Pradesh Government and the Sports Authority of India (SAI), aims to create one of India’s leading sports training institutions.
The Centre of Sports Excellence is expected to strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s sporting ecosystem by producing talented athletes capable of competing at national and international levels across multiple disciplines. (Maxim News)
