Hyderabad, Aug 5 (Maxim News): Telangana Minister for Information Technology, Electronics, Communications, Industries and Commerce D. Sridhar Babu will inaugurate HIPLEX 2026, South and Central India’s largest plastics exhibition and India’s third largest plastics expo, on August 7 at the HITEX Exhibition Centre in Hyderabad.
The four-day exhibition, organised by the Telangana and Andhra Plastics Manufacturers Association (TAAPMA), will run until August 10.
The exhibition will remain open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. Online registration before August 7 is free, while visitors registering at the venue from the inaugural day onwards will have to pay an entry fee of ₹300.
550 Exhibitors to Showcase Latest Technologies
Addressing a curtain raiser at the Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI), TAAPMA President Narendra Baldwa, HIPLEX 2026 Convener Meela Jayadev, All India Plastics Manufacturers’ Association (AIPMA) Senior Vice President Anil Reddy Vennam, and TAAPMA Senior Vice President N. Bhaskar Reddy said this would be the biggest edition of HIPLEX since its inception.
Spread across seven exhibition halls covering more than 26,000 square metres, the expo will feature over 550 exhibitors and is expected to attract more than 55,000 business visitors from India and abroad.
Around 160 companies from Gujarat, 110 exhibitors from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, and nearly 40 companies from China will participate in the event.
The exhibition will feature live demonstrations of plastics processing machinery, moulds, automation systems, recycling technologies, packaging innovations, specialty chemicals, raw materials, and finished plastic products.
Other dignitaries expected at the inauguration include Krishna Aditya S., Special Secretary, Industries and Commerce Department, Arvind Mehta, Chairman of the Governing Council of AIPMA, and Dr. Raju Desai, President of the Plast India Foundation.
Recycling Pavilion to Highlight Circular Economy
One of the major attractions at HIPLEX 2026 will be the Dedicated Recycling Pavilion, showcasing how plastic waste can be converted into valuable products.
Visitors will see demonstrations showing how 25 discarded PET bottles can be transformed into a wearable T-shirt. The pavilion will also display products manufactured from recycled plastics, including roads, railway sleepers, bricks, school benches, furniture, bus shelters, roofing materials, bridges, boats, and even houses.
Meela Jayadev said the pavilion aims to reinforce the message that plastic waste becomes a valuable resource when recycled properly.
He noted that India has already constructed over one lakh kilometres of roads using waste plastic, making it one of the global leaders in plastic road technology. Nearly one tonne of waste plastic is used for every kilometre of road, resulting in stronger and more durable infrastructure.
Jayadev also announced that school benches made from recycled plastic are expected to be introduced in Telangana shortly, reflecting the growing acceptance of sustainable plastic products in public infrastructure.
Medical Polymers and Advanced Plastics in Focus
The organisers highlighted the expanding role of advanced plastics across several sectors, including healthcare, aerospace, defence, automobiles, electronics, renewable energy, and precision engineering.
Experts said medical grade polymers are now widely used in artificial joints, cardiovascular devices, life saving medical equipment, and components of next generation artificial heart systems.
They noted that engineering plastics are increasingly replacing steel, copper, and wood because of their lightweight, strength, and durability.
Industry Welcomes Polymer Currency Notes
Speaking at the press conference, AIPMA Senior Vice President Anil Reddy Vennam welcomed the Government of India’s move towards introducing ₹10 and ₹20 polymer banknotes.
He said polymer currency lasts much longer than conventional paper notes, offers enhanced security features, and reduces replacement costs. According to industry discussions, the first polymer notes are expected to enter circulation later this year, subject to decisions by the Government of India and the Reserve Bank of India.
Vennam said the initial series of polymer notes should preferably use virgin polymer for maximum durability and security. However, future generations could incorporate recycled polymers as recycling technologies continue to improve.
Plastics Industry Growing at 10 Percent
The organisers said India’s plastics industry is currently growing at 8 to 10 percent annually. They credited the Government of India’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework for encouraging greater use of recycled plastic in packaging and promoting a circular economy.
India now recycles nearly 40 percent of its plastic waste, while Telangana has significant potential to improve recycling further.
The speakers also highlighted how PET bottles are increasingly being recycled into garments, furniture, and other consumer products. They noted that companies such as Coca-Cola have expanded bottle collection and recycling programmes, contributing to sustainable manufacturing.
In addition to the exhibition, HIPLEX 2026 will host technical conferences, business networking sessions, and knowledge forums focusing on sustainability, automation, advanced materials, emerging applications, recycling technologies, and investment opportunities.
The organisers said HIPLEX 2026 will showcase how innovation and the circular economy are transforming the plastics industry while creating new opportunities for technology partnerships, investment, and sustainable industrial growth. (Maxim News)
