Rahul Gandhi Predicts Modi Government’s Fall Amid CEC Row

Hyderabad: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has predicted that the Narendra Modi government will fall if Opposition parties continue their pressure over the Election Commission controversy.

In a post on X on Saturday, October 10, Gandhi said Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar would leave office, followed by the government. He added that the process of “repairing democracy” would then begin.

Gandhi also shared a video of his address to INDIA bloc MPs at the Central Hall of Parliament. On Friday, he told Opposition MPs that the current government’s problems went beyond the Chief Election Commissioner.

“If we continue to push the way we have in the last three-four days, I guarantee this government will fall,” Gandhi said, according to reports.

Rahul Gandhi Links Government’s Future to Election Commission Row

Gandhi’s remarks came amid protests by Opposition parties demanding the removal of Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The controversy intensified after The Indian Express reported that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had raised objections at least 14 times over 10 months. The reported objections mainly concerned electoral-roll management and SIR-related decisions.

The Election Commission has maintained that differing views and observations are normal during institutional deliberations. It said its final orders carry legal authority and follow established statutory procedures.

Gandhi has accused the government and the Election Commission of undermining democratic processes. These remain Opposition allegations and have not been established as findings by a court.

Meanwhile, protests against Kumar have continued in New Delhi, with Opposition leaders demanding greater accountability over voter-roll revisions. The government’s future remains uncertain, and Gandhi’s prediction is a political claim rather than a confirmed outcome.
