Railway Fare Hike: Big Shock For Railway Passengers
Delhi/Hyderabad, Dec 21 (Maxim News): The central government has given a shock to train passengers. Citing increased operating costs and modern facilities, the Indian Railways has decided to increase the fares. This burden will be especially heavy on AC class passengers. According to the latest report released by the Railway Board, the fares have been revised according to the distance travelled.
AC tickets: There will be an additional Rs 10 for every 500 km of travel. For example, if you have to travel 1,000 km, you will have to pay Rs 20 more than the old price.
Sleeper, General Class: It seems that minor changes have been made in these categories as well. Depending on the distance, there is a possibility of an increase of Rs 5 to Rs 15.
Officials have revealed that these increased prices will come into effect immediately. The old prices will be applicable to those who have already made reservations, but the increased prices will be applicable to those who book new ones. There are three main reasons behind this price hike. Huge funds are required for the introduction of modern trains like Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat and for the redevelopment of stations. The financial burden on the railways has increased due to the increase in electricity charges, prices of spare parts, and salary and allowances of staff. The railways is planning to allocate more funds for cleanliness, bio-toilets and passenger safety in trains. (Maxim News)
