Ram Temple Funds Row: VHP Chief Demands Fair Probe

Ram Temple funds row | Hyderabad, July 3 (Maxim News): Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) President Alok Kumar has called for a fair and comprehensive investigation into the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, saying every allegation should be examined without bias as scrutiny over the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust continues to intensify.

Speaking on Friday, Kumar said allegations have been made against Trust General Secretary Champat Rai and that the Trust itself has supported a thorough investigation. He said all complaints, irrespective of the individuals involved, should be examined in a transparent manner.

According to Kumar, the ongoing inquiry should establish the facts and ensure accountability wherever necessary. He, however, refrained from making any conclusions while the investigation is underway.

Ram Temple Funds Row Draws Political Attention

The controversy emerged after Trust Office In-charge Prakash Gupta alleged irregularities in the counting of donations collected at the Ram Temple. He claimed that employees engaged by the State Bank of India (SBI) for handling cash collections may have been involved in the alleged wrongdoing.

Gupta clarified that the counting of donations was carried out under an agreement between the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust and SBI. Although a Trust representative supervised the process, he said the Trust was unaware of any alleged theft during the counting exercise.

He further maintained that the Trust had no direct role in the alleged irregularities and stated that responsibility, if established, would rest with the external personnel assigned to handle the cash counting process.

Meanwhile, the Trust has reiterated its support for a comprehensive investigation into all allegations related to the donation management process. The inquiry is expected to determine whether any financial irregularities occurred and identify those responsible.

The issue has also sparked political reactions. Responding to remarks made by Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, Alok Kumar said everyone has the right to express political opinions. However, he questioned whether the party could seek political mileage from the Ram Temple issue while avoiding questions related to the firing on kar sevaks during the Samajwadi Party’s earlier tenure in Uttar Pradesh.

He also referred to past statements made by Samajwadi Party leaders regarding the Ayodhya incident and said the party had never apologised for those events.
