Hyderabad, Oct. 2 (Maxim News): Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Friday accused the ruling Congress and opposition BRS of engaging in a “quid pro quo” to shield each other from allegations of corruption.

Addressing a media conference at the BJP state office, Rao said the two parties were trading allegations against each other without taking concrete action on the issues raised.

His remarks came after Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy recently levelled allegations against assets held by leaders and family members of the previous BRS government. Rao said BRS leaders had responded with allegations against the Congress government.

Rao alleged that both parties were limiting themselves to political accusations instead of addressing public concerns. He also criticised the Congress government over its earlier promise to act against alleged corruption during the previous BRS regime.

The BJP leader claimed that the Congress had promised action and arrests within 100 days of coming to power but had not made arrests in the cases he referred to. These claims were made by Rao at the press conference and were not presented as findings of a court or investigative agency.

BJP Raises Teachers’ and Farmers’ Issues

Rao also demanded that the Telangana government address the grievances of teachers affected by GO 317 and implement GO 190 properly.

He claimed that around 4,000 teachers were eligible for transfers or deputations under GO 190, but only around 100 to 200 had received relief. He criticised the alleged arrests of teachers who protested near Gandhi Bhavan and demanded that their grievances be resolved immediately.

The BJP leader also accused the government of failing to address the problems faced by farmers.

He said farmers in parts of Telangana were struggling with inadequate water and power supply and claimed that standing crops were drying up. Rao specifically referred to farmers in Nalgonda district and the situation around the Jurala project.

Recent reporting has also documented Rao’s criticism after BJP leaders, including him, were detained while attempting to travel to the Jurala project to meet farmers. He had said farmers dependent on the Krishna basin, Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation Scheme and Jurala were facing irrigation problems.

Rao demanded the immediate release of one instalment of Rythu Bharosa before the Rabi season and urged the government to credit the amount directly to farmers’ accounts.

He further criticised the state government over the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. Rao alleged that the government had failed to pay the required premium and claimed this had affected farmers.

He also referred to the Warangal Farmers’ Declaration and alleged that the Congress had promised an insurance scheme better than the Centre’s programme but had not implemented such a scheme.

Cinema and Television Personalities Join BJP

Rao also said people dissatisfied with the Congress and BRS were looking for an alternative in Telangana and appealed to intellectuals and politically active youth to join the BJP.

Several people from the cinema and television sectors joined the BJP during the media conference.

The new entrants included television artist and lawyer Swarnalatha, television actor Laxman and senior cameramen Suresh and Mahesh. They joined the party under the leadership of BJP state Cinema Cell co-convener and actor Vaibhav Surya.

Rao welcomed the new members by presenting them with BJP party scarves.

The BJP state president said his party would continue to raise issues concerning teachers, farmers and other sections of the public.

The Congress and BRS have their own positions on the allegations and political issues raised by Rao. The claims regarding a “quid pro quo” between the two parties are BJP’s political allegations. (Maxim News)
