Ready for Debate—Let KCR Face Us in Assembly: Minister Ponnam Prabhakar Challenges BRS
Hyderabad, July 5 (Maxim News): Telangana Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has strongly countered BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao’s (KTR) challenge for a public debate, insisting that such discussions must take place within the state legislative Assembly—not at press clubs.
Responding to KTR’s recent invitation for a debate at the Somajiguda Press Club on the Banakacharla project and other governance issues, Ponnam emphasized that the people of Telangana deserve transparency, and the Assembly is the rightful platform for such discussions.
“Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has already said he is ready for a debate in the Assembly if opposition leader KCR writes to the Speaker. Why hesitate? Let KCR come forward and participate,” said Ponnam.
He also pointed out that KTR might not be aware of the CM’s stand due to his travel abroad, adding that the BRS party must stop making challenges outside the Assembly and bring their concerns to the house instead.
“We are not afraid of a debate. In fact, we are inviting it. Let KCR write to the Speaker and convene a special Assembly session. If BRS is sincere, they should accept the invitation and face us in the temple of democracy,” Ponnam said.
He further criticized BRS over the Banakacharla water issue, alleging that the previous BRS government entered into unjust agreements with Andhra Pradesh without proper boundaries or clarity. He questioned the silence of KCR and BRS leaders on water-sharing issues, including Pothireddypadu and Bankacharla, during the BRS rule.
“BRS betrayed Telangana on irrigation projects, and now they are trying to cover it up with political gimmicks,” Ponnam fired back.
He also dismissed KTR’s claims about sweeping local body elections, saying that such statements are meaningless when the party fails to engage in constructive discussion inside the Assembly.
