Kolkata/Hyderabad, may 3 (Maxim News): Polling was held in 142 constituencies in the second phase of elections in West Bengal on April 29. However, the EC confirmed that irregularities occurred in several booths in the second phase of elections. In this context, repolling was conducted in 11 booths in Magrahat West constituency and four booths in Diamond Harbour. The EC also found that irregularities occurred in 285 polling booths in Falta constituency. It ordered repolling in those polling booths. Repolling will be held on May 21. The results will be announced on May 24.
The Election Commission has mentioned several irregularities in a letter sent to the Chief Electoral Officer of Bengal. It has been stated that incidents like preventing voters from voting have taken place. It has been said that black tapes were put on the buttons of ballot units to prevent them from voting for the opposing party. The letter has revealed that the accused have put pen to paper and smeared ink on the buttons of ballot units to identify who voted for a particular candidate. It has been stated that the returning officers and observers have confirmed that irregularities have taken place in 285 polling booths.(Maxim News)
