Hyderabad, July 11: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has alleged that the BJP-led Central government is pushing ahead with the proposed Delimitation Bill to redraw India’s political map with the objective of strengthening its electoral prospects in future elections.
Addressing a public meeting, Revanth Reddy claimed that the Centre was attempting to secure the numbers required to pass the Delimitation Bill, 2026 and the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026 in Parliament.
The Chief Minister alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were trying to weaken opposition parties, including the Trinamool Congress (TMC) led by Mamata Banerjee and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), while persuading other political parties to support the proposed legislation.
According to Revanth Reddy, the BJP’s objective is to reshape the country’s political landscape ahead of future elections.
Revanth Reddy claimed that if the proposed legislation is passed, Telangana’s representation would increase significantly.
According to him:
- Lok Sabha seats in Telangana could increase from 17 to 26.
- Assembly constituencies could rise from 119 to 182 before the next Assembly elections.
The Chief Minister said the increase in seats would take effect following the delimitation exercise if the proposed constitutional amendment receives Parliament’s approval.
Expressing confidence in the Congress party’s electoral prospects, Revanth Reddy coined the slogan “Aur Ek Bar Congress Sarkar”, asserting that the party would secure 117 of the proposed 182 Assembly seats if elections are held after delimitation.
He recalled that he had predicted three years ago at a public meeting in Khammam that the Congress would win around 65 Assembly seats in the 2023 Telangana elections, a claim he cited while expressing confidence in the party’s future performance.
The proposed Delimitation Bill has not yet been passed by Parliament, and the Centre has not officially responded to the Chief Minister’s allegations.
