- Nishikant Dubey says Congress only cares for Muslims
- Telangana CM defends speech, calls himself secular leader
Hyderabad, Nov 9: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s recent remarks linking Congress with Muslims have triggered political controversy across parties. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey reacted sharply, accusing the Congress of being indifferent to Hindutva and focused solely on minority appeasement.
Addressing a corner meeting earlier this week in Hyderabad’s Shaikpet division, Revanth Reddy said, “It is only Congress that gave big posts to the minorities. Congress means Muslims, and Muslims mean Congress. In our government, Hindus and Muslims are all equal. We don’t discriminate.” His statement, seen as reinforcing Congress’s pro-minority stance, quickly drew strong reactions from BJP leaders and Muslim groups alike.
Nishikant Dubey, responding to Reddy’s comments, told media, “Revanth is a very good friend of ours. He has worked with us. Revanth’s pain has come out, and he has understood it. Congress has nothing to do with Hindutva and only cares about Muslims. He has spoken the truth.” His remarks reflected the BJP’s long-held criticism of the Congress’s approach to religious politics.
During his speech, Revanth Reddy had also highlighted his political success built on minority support. He claimed that minorities faced no issues during the 20 months of Congress rule in Telangana and reiterated that the party remains committed to their welfare. He further alleged that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) had been “cheating the Muslims” and predicted that BRS would eventually merge with the BJP.
The statement sparked protests from Muslim groups, who condemned his reported remark, “Congress hai toh Musalman hai, Congress nahi toh aap kuch nahi (Muslims exist because of Congress. You are nothing without Congress),” demanding an apology for what they called an insulting statement.
Revanth Reddy maintained that his comments were taken out of context, asserting that he has always stood as a secular leader since the beginning of his political career. Meanwhile, BRS leaders joined in criticising the CM, calling his statements divisive and politically motivated.
The episode has further escalated tensions in Telangana’s political landscape, with both BJP and BRS seizing on the remarks to attack the Congress ahead of upcoming polls.
