Hyderabad, April 15: Samrat Choudhary was sworn in as Chief Minister of Bihar on April 15, 2026. He became the first leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party to hold the post in the state.
Governor Syed Ata Hasnain administered the oath at Lok Bhawan in Patna. Along with him, Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav took oath as ministers.
The swearing in ceremony was attended by key NDA leaders. These included J. P. Nadda, Chirag Paswan, and Nitish Kumar. Several NDA MLAs were also present.
Samrat Choudhary sworn in as Bihar Chief Minister after transition
Nitish Kumar resigned from the Chief Minister’s post on Tuesday. He dissolved his cabinet before stepping down. He now serves as a Rajya Sabha member.
Samrat Choudhary earlier held the Home portfolio as Deputy Chief Minister. He joined the BJP in 2017. The party named him legislative leader a day before the swearing in.
Senior leaders oversaw the transition process. Shivraj Singh Chouhan attended as central observer. State BJP chief Nitin Nabin was also present.
The new government is led by the NDA alliance in Bihar. It includes BJP, JD(U), and other partners. The leadership change marks a key political shift in the state.
