Mahabubnagar, May 26: Thieves stole an State Bank of India ATM cash box after damaging the machine at Telangana Chowrasta in Mahabubnagar town during the early hours of Tuesday.
According to police, the miscreants severely damaged the ATM machine before escaping with the cash container. Officials said the exact amount stolen is yet to be determined.
Before carrying out the theft, the offenders reportedly damaged CCTV cameras and other surveillance equipment installed inside the ATM centre to avoid identification.
Police Probe SBI ATM Theft In Mahabubnagar
Local residents noticed the damaged ATM centre and immediately alerted police and bank officials.
Police teams rushed to the spot and deployed a clues team to collect fingerprints and other forensic evidence from the ATM centre.
Officials said the fingerprints collected from the scene would be matched with records of offenders involved in similar ATM thefts in the past.
Bank authorities are currently verifying transaction records and cash balance details to estimate the total amount stolen from the machine.
Police suspect that the same gang involved in a recent ATM theft reported in Shadnagar may also be linked to the Mahabubnagar incident.
The theft has triggered concern among local residents over law and order issues in the district, especially after repeated ATM targeting incidents in recent weeks.
