- Seed Packaging Conference highlights sustainability and innovation
- Experts stress technology driven seed packaging solutions
Hyderabad: Seed packaging emerged as a key focus area for India’s agriculture and food security during a day long conference held in the city. The Conference on Emerging Trends in Sustainable & Innovative Techniques for Seed Packaging took place on Friday at FTCCI in Red Hills. The Indian Institute of Packaging organised the event. It concluded late in the evening. Over 100 delegates attended the conference.
The event brought together policymakers, industry leaders, scientists, packaging technologists, and young professionals. The discussions showed how seed packaging has moved beyond basic storage. Speakers explained that it now plays a strategic role in agricultural performance, sustainability, and global trade compliance. Therefore, many sessions focused on innovation, regulation, and farmer trust.
The inaugural session featured Mr. N. Nataraj, Deputy Director and Regional Officer of IIP Hyderabad, Mr. Ram Kaundinya, Advisor to the Federation of Seed Industry of India, and Dr. Shaik N. Meera, Director of ICAR Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute Zone X, Hyderabad. Experts from APEDA, CIPET, NIC, Plant Quarantine Stations, engineering firms, and design studios also shared insights on compliance and future ready solutions.
Highlighting the farmer’s perspective, Mr. Ram Kaundinya said, “For farmers, the first physical interaction with a seed is through its package. That moment determines trust. Effective seed packaging safeguards quality, ensures authenticity, and protects farmers from spurious products—making it a cornerstone of a reliable seed ecosystem.” His remarks underlined the link between packaging and farmer confidence.
Guest of Honour Mr. Chakravarthi AVPS, Global Ambassador of the World Packaging Organisation, delivered the keynote address. He said, “Every farmer’s season begins with a seed—and the farmer’s trust begins with how that seed reaches his or her hands. Seed packaging is no longer an auxiliary activity. It is a strategic intervention.” He later noted Telangana’s role as India’s Seed Capital, contributing nearly 30–35% of hybrid seed production.
Dr. Shaik N. Meera stressed last mile impact. He said, “The value of agricultural research is realised only when technologies reach farmers in an effective and usable form.” Meanwhile, speakers across sessions agreed that modern seed packaging must protect quality, ensure traceability, and reduce environmental impact. The conference ended with an interactive discussion, reinforcing a shared resolve to position Telangana as a global benchmark in sustainable seed packaging.
