Senior BJP leader Chandrashekar resigns, likely to join the Congress

Hyderabad: Senior BJP leader Chandrashekar, announced his departure from the saffron party on Sunday. He conveyed his decision via a resignation letter to the State party president, Kishan Reddy. Citing insufficient support for party workers, he made allegations upon quitting. Sources in close proximity to him suggest that Chandrashekar is poised to join the Congress party soon.

Chandrashekar held the position of MLA from the Vikarabad constituency for an impressive five consecutive terms spanning 1985 to 2008. In the 2018 elections, he ran as an independent candidate and faced defeat. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Chandrashekar contested from Peddapally on the Congress ticket but experienced another loss.

Subsequently, he aligned with the BJP; however, he gradually distanced himself from active party engagements. Despite efforts by the party management committee’s chairman, MLA Eatala Rajender, who personally visited him and attempted to change his decision, Chandrashekar’s resolve remained unchanged. As a result, he formally resigned from his membership within the party.
