Hyderabad, August 2: Seven students of an Ashram school in Bellampalli of Mancherial district fell ill on Saturday after consuming lunch at their hostel, prompting concerns over the quality of food served at the residential institution.
According to parents, the students developed vomiting and stomach pain after having lunch at the hostel at around 3 p.m.
The affected students were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. After receiving medical care, all seven students were discharged later in the evening.
Parents suspect that stale or contaminated food may have caused the students to fall ill, although the exact reason is yet to be officially confirmed.
Parents alleged that hostel officials failed to take immediate responsibility for shifting the students to the hospital.
They claimed that local residents helped transport the students for medical treatment and criticised the hostel management for its alleged lack of prompt response during the incident.
The parents urged authorities to conduct a thorough inquiry into the incident, ensure hygienic food is served to hostel inmates and strengthen regular monitoring of residential schools to prevent similar occurrences.
Officials are expected to investigate the cause of the students’ illness and verify whether food safety norms were followed at the hostel.
