- Cold wave continues as temperatures dip below 10°C across Telangana
- Hyderabad sees biting cold as night temperatures fall sharply
Telangana is reeling under a severe cold wave as winter temperatures plunged across most districts over the weekend. The Telangana State Development and Planning Society (TSDPS) reported that several northern and western areas recorded minimum temperatures below 10°C, marking the peak phase of this season’s cold spell. The sharp drop has caused discomfort among residents, with many regions witnessing early morning fog and biting chill conditions.
Sirpur in Kumurambheem–Asifabad district recorded the state’s lowest temperature at 7.4°C, while Kohir in Sangareddy followed closely with 8.1°C. Hyderabad also experienced an intense chill, with 10°C recorded at the HCU station in Serilingampally on Sunday morning. Weather officials said that these readings indicate one of the coldest phases of the current winter season.
Meteorologists from TSDPS cautioned that the next two nights could bring even colder conditions. Western Telangana districts, including parts of Sangareddy and Nizamabad, are expected to witness minimum temperatures dipping further to around 6–7°C. In Hyderabad, temperatures may remain between 8°C and 10°C, maintaining a cold and breezy atmosphere through the early hours.
Meanwhile, relatively higher readings were confined to southern and eastern parts of the state. Bhadradri Kothagudem, Wanaparthy, Khammam, and Jogulamba Gadwal districts recorded minimums of around 15°C, offering mild relief. However, most other regions continued to report single-digit temperatures, confirming a widespread and persistent cold wave across Telangana.
The sudden fall in temperatures has prompted residents to layer up as dense morning fog disrupted visibility on highways and rural roads. Authorities have urged caution for travelers during early morning hours and advised residents to stay warm as the cold spell is expected to persist for a few more days.
