Muslims in Hyderabad are observing Shab-e-Barat on Tuesday night, marking the 15th day of the Hijri calendar month of Shabaan. The night, known as the night of deliverance, holds deep religious importance for the community. It commemorates Prophet Mohammed’s entry into the holy city of Mecca. Therefore, devotees across the city are spending the night in prayer, reflection, and remembrance.
The occasion is revered worldwide as a time of atonement. During Shab-e-Barat, Muslims seek forgiveness for their sins and prepare spiritually for the upcoming month of Ramzan. Meanwhile, special prayers and sermons are being held at several mosques across Hyderabad. Religious leaders are guiding devotees on faith, repentance, and discipline during the pious night.
A large turnout of worshippers is expected at prominent mosques in the city. These include the historic Mecca Masjid, Jamia Masjid at Musheerabad, Vazir Ali Mosque at Fateh Darwaza, Jamia Masjid Jafaria at Sanathnagar, Azizia Masjid at Mehdipatnam, and Jamia Masjid at Mahboob Chowk. Also, devotees are gathering at other neighbourhood mosques to offer namaz and listen to sermons through the night.
Religious meetings are also taking place at several public venues. These include Milad Grounds at Khilwat, Moghalpura playground, and Quli Qutb Shah Stadium. At these locations, eminent religious scholars are addressing gatherings. They are speaking about the meaning of Shab-e-Barat and its role in personal reform and devotion.
As part of tradition, people are visiting graveyards to remember their departed family members. Ahead of the occasion, authorities cleaned burial grounds across Hyderabad. They also arranged temporary lighting to help visitors move safely. Wild vegetation and garbage were removed from these areas. Senior officials of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation supervised the work to ensure timely completion.
Meanwhile, community elders have appealed for restraint and responsibility. They urged parents not to allow underaged children to drive motorcycles and cars. They also advised youngsters to spend more time in mosques offering namaz or reading the Quran. Elders requested them to avoid roaming on roads, disturbing peace, or causing nuisance in residential areas. The appeal aims to ensure that Shab-e-Barat in Hyderabad remains peaceful and focused on prayer.
