SIR Enumeration Drive Triggers Confusion Among Hyderabad Voters

Hyderabad, July 6: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has triggered confusion among voters across Hyderabad, with many alleging delays in form distribution, lack of awareness, and inconsistent implementation by Booth Level Officers (BLOs).

Residents from several localities said BLOs were either distributing forms at community halls instead of conducting door to door visits or had not reached their homes even after the exercise entered its second week. Many voters fear delays could affect their inclusion in the electoral rolls.

Voters reported that BLOs had received limited training and were unable to clearly explain how to fill the SIR enumeration forms. In several areas, officials allegedly handed over forms without providing guidance, while others asked residents to collect them from designated locations.

People whose names appeared in the 2002 electoral rolls said they were facing additional difficulties. Many claimed the forms did not contain complete details, requiring them to manually trace old booth numbers, serial numbers and constituency information.

Residents also raised concerns about missing or incomplete data in the forms. Some said family members were listed separately, while others reported errors in voter details without clear instructions on how to correct them.

In Amberpet, some voters requested that the forms also be made available in English or Urdu to improve accessibility for those unable to read Telugu.

Reports from Medchal indicated that form distribution remained incomplete in several polling booths, with only a portion of eligible voters receiving the documents. Local residents also said awareness about the exercise remained low, resulting in a limited number of completed forms being returned.

In Quthbullapur, voters alleged that Form 8, required for corrections in electoral records and address changes, was unavailable with BLOs. Residents also claimed that door to door verification was not being carried out uniformly.

People from areas including Ramanthapur, Golnaka, Uppal, Ghatkesar and Malakpet urged election authorities to strengthen supervision, improve public awareness and ensure BLOs complete the distribution process through house to house visits as prescribed.
