According to ACP Miyapur, Ch Y Srinivas Kumar, “The gang members would accommodate a passenger in the auto and, while on the move, would steal money and mobile phones by diverting the attention of the victim.” The operation was part of an ongoing effort by the city police to curb petty thefts and protect commuters who use shared autos.
Police investigations revealed that the accused targeted people traveling in shared auto-rickshaws along busy routes connecting the city outskirts. They worked in coordination, with some members posing as passengers while others managed to distract the victims. The organized pattern of their crimes prompted the Miyapur police to take swift action.

After receiving the complaint, the police tracked down the gang through technical surveillance and coordinated field intelligence. Once identified, all six accused were apprehended, and 20 mobile phones were seized. Officials confirmed that several members of the gang have prior criminal records and are known to law enforcement for similar offenses.
The arrests have brought relief to daily commuters in the Miyapur area, where mobile phone snatching and pickpocketing incidents had recently increased. The police urged passengers to be cautious while traveling in shared autos and report any suspicious activity immediately.
