Somnath Temple Ignored By Congress With Slave Mentality: PM Modi
Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday accused previous Congress governments of ignoring the Somnath Temple and trying to erase its history with what he described as a slave mentality.
Speaking during his visit to the Somnath Temple in Gujarat, Prime Minister Modi said Congress rulers had obstructed the reconstruction efforts led by Sardar Patel after Independence. He stated that the importance of the Somnath Temple was deliberately sidelined by earlier governments.
The Prime Minister said the then Congress leadership had also objected to India’s first President Dr. Babu Rajendra Prasad visiting the Somnath Temple. According to him, this reflected an attempt to distance the nation from its cultural heritage. Meanwhile, he said such actions failed to weaken the faith associated with the Somnath Temple.
Somnath Temple stands as symbol of faith and courage
During his three day visit to Gujarat, Prime Minister Modi visited the Somnath Temple and offered prayers. He recalled that foreign invaders carried out several raids on the temple. However, he said the Somnath Temple continues to stand as a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and determination.
Prime Minister Modi said that even after one thousand years since the army of Ghazni Muhammad attacked and destroyed the Somnath Temple, the temple flag still flies high. Therefore, he said, this reflects the spirit of India before the world. He also stated that Somnath Swabhiman Parv represents the deep faith of the nation.
The Prime Minister said participating in the Swabhiman Parv was a memorable moment for him. He added that this memory would remain with him throughout his life. Later, he recalled how people protected the Somnath Temple during repeated attacks and how some even sacrificed their lives.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi recently wrote a special article marking the thousandth anniversary of the attack on the Somnath Temple. In the article, he noted that Ghazni Muhammad’s invasion took place in January 1026. He also stated that devotees could visit the restored Somnath Temple again on May 11, 1951, due to the efforts of Dr. Rajendra Prasad after reconstruction.
The Prime Minister said the Somnath Temple continues to reflect India’s resilience and enduring faith despite repeated attempts to destroy it. (Maxim News)
