Hyderabad, July 20: The Sri Mahankali Bonalu festival, a vibrant symbol of Telangana’s culture and traditions, was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, on Sunday under the banner of the Emirates Telangana Cultural and Welfare Association (ETCA).
The celebrations were held at Matri Farms, where around 400 Telangana expatriates from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and other emirates participated with their families.
Sri Mahankali Bonalu Showcases Telangana Culture in UAE
The organisers decorated Goddess Sri Mahankali and conducted special pujas before devotees offered Bonalu. Traditional performances, including Oggudolu drumming, Pothuraju performances and Telangana folk music, recreated the festive atmosphere of a village celebration.
Maitri Group founder Kotta Jaipal Reddy attended the event as the chief guest. He appreciated the ETCA for preserving and promoting Telangana’s cultural heritage among the Indian diaspora and future generations.
ETCA founder president Kiran Kumar Peechara and president Jagadish Rao said the association aims to preserve Telangana’s traditions and introduce its festivals to the younger generation of Telangana families living in the UAE.
The celebrations concluded with the distribution of traditional Telangana cuisine to the attendees.
Among those present were Vice President Srinivas Eligeti, General Secretary Ranikotla, Joint Secretary Sekhar Goud Gundaneni, Treasurer Tirumal Rao Birelli, former president Radharapu Satyam, senior members Venkateswara Rao, SP Kasturi and Suresh Reddy, along with executive members and volunteers.
