Hyderabad, July 20: The Supreme Court on Monday suggested that the Centre consider investigating the alleged Ram Temple funds misuse case through a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising senior officers instead of the local police.
Hearing petitions related to the alleged diversion of donations at the Ayodhya Ram Temple, the bench was informed that eight people have been arrested so far in connection with the case.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre, submitted a status report on the progress of the investigation. He told the court that the government would inform the bench after receiving clear instructions on the proposed formation of an SIT.
During the hearing, the bench headed by the Chief Justice of India cautioned the petitioners against viewing the matter through a political lens.
The court observed that judicial proceedings are not political forums and stressed that the priority is to ensure an impartial and comprehensive investigation into the allegations.
Counsel appearing for the petitioners urged the court to direct authorities to preserve all records related to donations and offerings made by devotees. They also sought a direction to make donation receipts available through a dedicated website to improve transparency.
After hearing the submissions, the Supreme Court adjourned the matter to July 27 for further proceedings.
