Nalanda/Hyderabad, Mar 31 (Maxim News): A stampede took place in Bihar’s Nalanda district today. The incident took place at the Mata Shitalashtami Temple in Maghra village. About 8 devotees lost their lives in the stampede.
All the deceased were women. Up to a dozen others were seriously injured. The incident is said to have taken place 5 km from Bihar Sharif in Nalanda district. Since it was the last Tuesday of the month of Chaitra, a large number of devotees flocked to the temple. After the stampede, a terrible situation prevailed at the temple. Scenes of several women fainting were seen.
Two of the deceased devotees have been identified. The injured were taken to the local Model Hospital for treatment. As Ashtami, the 8th day of the Krishna Paksha of Chaitra month, falls on the 8th day, a large number of devotees have flocked to the temple for the darshan of the goddess.
On the day of Sheetala Ashtami, locals do not light the stoves in their houses. The food cooked the previous day is offered to the goddess as an offering. On the day of Ashtami, a large number of devotees come to this temple. There are huge queues for the darshan of the goddess. (Maxim News)
