Supreme Court Gives Nod for Ganesh Idols Immersion
Hyderabad, Sept.16 (Maxim News): Supreme Court today finally gave its nod for Immersion of Ganesh idols made of Plaster of Paris in Hussain Sagar in Hyderabad.
The Supreme Court gave a reprieve to the contentious issue and allowed immersion of PoP idols in the lake.
The Court however put riders stating that the permission is for this year and not next year. CJI NV Ramana expressed displeasure at the government on arrangements.
While crores of funds spent for beautification works such programs will incur loss, he observed.
The State Government moved the Supreme Court challenging the high court orders against the immersion of the PoP idols.
The CJI NV Ramana said that the SC gives permission for this year only and next year onwards not.
The high court will take care of the rest of the things on the Ganesh festival.
The state government has to make efforts to make alternative arrangements.
Attorney General Tushar Mehta argued in the court that the government seeks permission for this year to immerse PoP idols as arrangements were made with big cranes.
The government arranged 22 special ponds for the purpose and big idols cannot be immersed in them, he clarified.
Since there is no chance to make alternative arrangements the SC has to offer permission, he appealed.
He informed the court that the debris or waste after immersion will be removed immediately. The state government agreed to a SC direction that the government has to file an affidavit that PoP, and synthetic colour idols will not be used, and steps that will cause pollution.
Ganesh idol immersion is a regular problem in the state that he is aware of, the CJI said. (Maxim News)
