Supreme Court Seeks NTA Update On NEET Reform Measures

New Delhi, August 19: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the National Testing Agency to report steps taken to implement NEET reform recommendations.

The bench stressed the need to institutionalise reforms in the medical entrance examination system.

A bench of Justices PS Narasimha and Alok Aradhe asked Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to file a fresh affidavit.

The court referred to recommendations made by the Radhakrishnan Committee and the Nandan Nilekani panel.

The bench observed that reforms should address systemic issues rather than focus only on individual examinations.

Mehta told the court that several safeguards are in place from question paper printing until delivery to candidates.

He said the current system is difficult to breach.

According to Mehta, several moderators prepare a question bank without knowing which questions will enter the final paper.

He also said vehicles carrying NEET question papers have GPS tracking, with movements recorded.

The court was hearing several petitions, including one filed by advocate Tanvi Dubey for the Federation of All India Medical Association.

The seven member Radhakrishnan Committee was formed after the NEET UG paper leak controversy.

It recommended reforms in examination procedures, data security and the functioning of the NTA.

The government also formed a task force led by Infosys co founder Nandan Nilekani to examine structural reforms in NEET examinations.
