Surging Summer Heat Boost Demand for Ice Apples in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, May 14 (Maxim News): As the summer heat intensifies across Hyderabad, residents are turning to a refreshing seasonal favorite — ice apples, locally known as munjal — to beat the soaring temperatures. With its natural cooling properties and high water content, the translucent fruit has become a staple in city markets.

Vendors across the city report a sharp rise in demand for munjal, which is harvested mainly from parts of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The fruit is prized not just for its thirst-quenching qualities, but also for its impressive health benefits.

Munjal is more than just a seasonal treat,” says Dr. Radhika Menon, a local nutritionist. “It helps regulate body temperature, supports hydration, aids digestion, and even improves skin health due to its antioxidant content.”

Rich in essential nutrients like Vitamin C, B12, and potassium, Munjal is often recommended as a natural remedy for conditions aggravated by heat, including constipation, skin irritation, and stomach ulcers. Health experts also highlight its role in liver detoxification, blood pressure control, and cardiovascular wellness.

After coconut water, ice apples are considered one of the most sought-after natural coolants in the region. Shoppers at local fruit markets say Munjal is flying off the shelves, with prices currently hovering around ₹100 for a dozen pieces.

Fruit seller Rafiq at the Moazzam Jahi Market noted, “We’re selling double the quantity compared to last year. People prefer munjal over sugary drinks — it’s healthier and more satisfying.”

As Hyderabad continues to battle relentless heat waves, the popularity of Munjal shows no signs of cooling down. Whether for health, hydration, or pure indulgence, ice apples are the fruit of the season. (Maxim News)
