Talasani Urges Peaceful, Traditional Celebrations For Bonalu and Yellamma Kalyanam Festivals
Hyderabad, June 27, 2025 (Maxim News): Former Minister and Sanath Nagar MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav has called for the Bonalu and Balkampet Yellamma Kalyanam festivals to be celebrated in a peaceful and joyous atmosphere, emphasizing that devotional traditions must be respected and not disrupted by new policies.
Speaking on Friday after receiving an invitation from the Sri Ujjaini Mahankali Temple officials for the Bonalu celebrations scheduled on July 13, Talasani strongly opposed the imposition of new administrative procedures, especially those that involve collecting money from devotees under various pretexts.
“Devotees come to temples with immense faith. Introducing untested policies or deviating from long-standing traditions will only lead to dissatisfaction and unrest,” he stated.
Upholding Faith and Tradition
Talasani emphasized that offerings made through hundi collections are sacred and voluntary, and warned against any attempts to commercialize religious events. He urged the authorities to revert to traditional practices and avoid changes that could lead to confusion or controversy.
“Festivals like Bonalu and Yellamma Kalyanam carry deep spiritual significance. Any move that alters their traditional character could have serious consequences, and the government must take full responsibility if unrest occurs,” he cautioned.
Bonalu Invitation and Planning
The MLA was formally invited by temple officials, including EO Manohar Reddy, Chairman Kamesh, and other committee members at his office in West Maredpally. Scholars offered Vedic blessings and prasadam during the visit. Talasani took the opportunity to inquire about the festival preparations and directed the team to ensure smooth and traditional arrangements.
“Avoid introducing new systems that may create chaos. Let devotees experience the festival in the same way they always have—peacefully and spiritually,” he advised.
Community Leaders Present
The event was attended by several key figures including Ramgopal Peta Division BRS President Attili Srinivas Goud, former committee members Mahesh Yadav, Mahender, Anand Patil, Chandu, and Rammohan Yadav, among others.
