Tamil Nadu likely to see heavy rains for the next few days

Chennai, Tamil Nadu Rains Live: Several parts of Chennai reeled under heavy, unexpected rains on Thursday evening, resulting in three deaths, inundated roads and heavy traffic jams. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai said that coastal districts of Tamil Nadu is likely to see moderate rain for the next five days.

“Heavy to very heavy is likely to occur at one or two places over delta districts, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Chennai, Tiruvallur districts of Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal area,” it said in a statement.

As a precautionary measure, the state government has declared a holiday for government offices, educational institutions including schools and colleges on Friday in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpet districts. A red alert was issued in four districts — Chennai, Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur, and Chengalpattu — on Thursday.

Chief Minister MK Stalin took stock of the situation. Minister Ramachadran said that a 24×7 control room has been set up and relief centres opened to help the public. The minister asked people to stay indoors and step out only if necessary. For any complaints, he said the public can dial 1070/1077.
