- Grand Alliance unites under RJD leader before Bihar Assembly polls
The Grand Alliance in Bihar has formally named Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav as its chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming Assembly elections, ending weeks of speculation over the opposition coalition’s leadership. The decision was announced at a joint meeting held at Hotel Maurya in Patna, signaling a united front ahead of the polls.
Senior Congress leader and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot made the announcement in the presence of top alliance figures, including Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahani, CPI(ML) general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, Bihar Congress in-charge Krishna Allavaru, and other Grand Alliance leaders. Gehlot called Tejashwi “young, capable, and committed to Congress’ ideology,” stating that he has the vision to fulfill the coalition’s promises. He further confirmed that Mukesh Sahani would be the first Deputy Chief Minister nominee, while another deputy CM name would be declared soon.
Expressing gratitude to his allies, Tejashwi Yadav thanked them for their confidence and pledged to “work together to rebuild Bihar.” Outlining key priorities, he promised to create employment opportunities and ensure a monthly salary of Rs 30,000 for Jeevika didis. He also unveiled the Grand Alliance’s campaign slogan, Chalo Bihar, Badlein Bihar (“Let’s Go Bihar, Let’s Change Bihar”), which aims to resonate with youth and women voters by focusing on empowerment and livelihoods.
The announcement reinforced the message of unity across diverse parties, seeking to energize grassroots cadres and present voters with a clear alternative to the ruling government. Party strategists emphasized livelihoods, governance reform, and social empowerment as central issues of the campaign. Meanwhile, seat-sharing arrangements and ticket distributions are already underway, with alliance partners ramping up district-level outreach.
Bihar will vote in two phases on November 6 and 11, and results will be declared on November 14. The early declaration of Tejashwi Yadav as the CM face provides the alliance with a clear focal point for campaign messaging, media engagement, and statewide rallies in the final leg before polling.
