Telangana Congress | Hyderabad, August 24: Telangana Congress is facing growing dissent as several leaders openly raise concerns over posts, recognition, influence and political coordination.
The Congress returned to power after a decade in Telangana. However, internal disagreements have now emerged as a major challenge for the ruling party.
Several leaders have complained that they gained little despite the party coming to power. They have also questioned the allocation of posts and political importance to leaders who joined Congress later.
The concerns range from the absence of government posts to constituency level disputes. Some leaders have also expressed frustration over pending works and uncertainty about their political future.
The situation has created concerns about coordination between the Congress organisation and the state government. Party leaders have also questioned the absence of a strong mechanism to mediate disputes.
Telangana Congress struggles with old versus new leadership
The conflict between long time Congress leaders and recent entrants has become a major issue. Leaders who joined from the BRS and TDP have gained political prominence in several areas.
This has reportedly created a quiet power struggle within the organisation. The dispute has become particularly visible during appointments to party and government positions.
To address the concern, the party has reportedly worked on a 60:40 formula. Under the proposal, 60 percent of positions would go to long standing Congress workers. The remaining 40 percent would go to leaders who joined the party later.
The formula has reportedly helped ease concerns among some lower level leaders. However, differences among senior leaders remain unresolved.
Constituency level disputes have also continued in places such as Jagtial, Gadwal, Banswada, Khairatabad and Station Ghanpur. Some disagreements have become public, while others continue within the organisation.
The issue has also involved several prominent leaders. Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy has repeatedly spoken about his political position and ministerial aspirations.
Rajagopal Reddy has claimed that the leadership promised him a ministerial position. However, the reported difficulty of accommodating another minister from the same family has complicated the issue.

Meanwhile, former minister Jeevan Reddy openly expressed dissatisfaction with the party leadership. He later joined the BRS. Former minister Chinna Reddy has also voiced concerns and indicated that he could follow a similar political path.
The party has faced other controversies as well. Former Mahila Congress president Sunitha Rao earlier created difficulties for the organisation. The issue reportedly settled after intervention from the central leadership.
The latest controversy involving Minister Konda Surekha and her daughter Susmitha has added to the pressure. Susmitha has made personal allegations against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and his family.
The controversy prompted the Pradesh Congress Committee to issue a show cause notice to Konda Surekha. Chinna Reddy has also received a notice over his public statements.
Earlier, Konda Surekha had apologised after a controversy involving comments made by her daughter. The latest episode has again raised questions about party discipline.
At the same time, Konda Surekha has previously made allegations against Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and MP Vem Narender Reddy. These episodes have added to the perception of growing factional differences within the party.
Party leaders believe disciplinary notices alone may not resolve the deeper disputes. They argue that senior leaders and the AICC must actively mediate between rival groups.
The timing also matters. Telangana has roughly two and a half years before the next Assembly election. Therefore, continued internal disputes could affect the party’s organisation and electoral preparations.
Social media has made the situation more difficult. Political statements by ruling party leaders now reach the public quickly. Opposition parties can also use such statements to target the government.
The Congress can respond more easily to criticism from the opposition. However, criticism from its own leaders creates a more complex political challenge.
The party therefore faces the task of maintaining unity while balancing senior leaders, new entrants, elected representatives and aspiring leaders. Stronger coordination between the government, TPCC and AICC could become crucial in containing the growing dissent.
