- Telangana Holidays 2026 list includes 27 General Holidays
- Optional Holidays for 2026 allow staff to choose from 26 dates
The Telangana government released the General and Optional Holidays Calendar for 2026. The new list outlines festival, national and cultural holidays for all employees working in government departments. Officials notified 27 General Holidays and 26 Optional Holidays for the year. The calendar aims to give clarity to departments so they can plan work schedules ahead of time.
The General Holidays for 2026 include Bhogi on January 14, Sankranti or Pongal on January 15, and Republic Day on January 26. The list also covers Holi on March 3 and Ugadi on March 19. The government mentioned Eid-ul-Fitr on March 21, followed by the next day of Ramzan on March 22. Sri Rama Navami falls on March 27. Good Friday is on April 3. The list also includes Babu Jagjivan Ram Jayanti on April 14 and B. R. Ambedkar Jayanti on April 5. Eid-ul-Azha or Bakrid is on May 27. Shahadat Imam Hussain on the 10th of Muharram is on June 27. Bonalu is on August 8. Independence Day is on August 15. Eid Milad-un-Nabi is on August 26. Vinayaka Chavithi is on August 14. Sri Krishnastami is on September 4. Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti is on October 2. Saddula Bathukamma and Vijaya Dasami both fall on October 10, followed by the next day of Vijaya Dasami on October 21. Deepavali is on November 8. Kartika Purnima and Guru Nanak Jayanti fall on November 24. Christmas is on December 25 and the day after Christmas, or Boxing Day, is on December 26. The notification also states that holidays which fall on Sundays, such as Maha Shivaratri, Bonalu, Saddula Bathukamma and Deepavali, are included.
The Optional Holidays for 2026 allow employees to pick up to five days from a list of 26 occasions. These include New Year’s Day on January 1, Kanuma on January 16, and Shab-e-Meraj on January 17. The list also contains Mahaveer Jayanti on March 31 and Buddha Purnima on May 1. Rath Yatra is on July 16. Varalakshmi Vratham falls on August 21. Rakhi Purnima is on August 28. Naraka Chaturdhi is on November 8. Christmas Eve is on December 24. Several other regional and cultural celebrations also form part of the optional list.
The government said all state offices will stay closed on all Sundays and second Saturdays. However, General Holidays do not apply to industrial units, public sector undertakings, public works departments or educational institutions. Separate orders will be issued for them. It also said that the dates of Islamic festivals, including Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Azha, Muharram and Eid Milad-un-Nabi, depend on moon sighting. Any changes will be announced through print and electronic media.
The 2026 holiday calendar gives employees a clear schedule of religious, cultural and national events, helping departments prepare their work plans well in advance.
