Telangana Medico Priyanka Dies After Rajahmundry Crash

Hyderabad, August 10:Telangana medico K. Priyanka, 28, died while undergoing treatment after a car hit her scooter in Rajahmundry last week.

The Telangana government has demanded strict punishment for those responsible for the fatal incident. Animal Husbandry Minister Vakiti Srihari visited Gandhi Hospital on Monday and met Priyanka’s family.

Srihari assured the family that the Telangana government would extend all possible support. He also said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy would speak with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu about the case.

Priyanka belonged to Eklaspur village in Jogulamba Gadwal district. She was pursuing an MD at GSL Medical College in Rajahmundry.

The incident occurred on August 3 when Priyanka was returning from a mall on a scooter with her friend Umesh. According to the information provided by the family and authorities, two men allegedly tried to enter the mall while under the influence of alcohol.Mall staff reportedly stopped them. An argument followed, and the two men allegedly attacked staff members before leaving in a car.

According to the account, the accused allegedly drove away at high speed. They reportedly struck Priyanka’s scooter three times near the mall gate.

Priyanka suffered severe injuries in the crash. Doctors first treated her at a local hospital before shifting her to KIMS Hospital in Hyderabad for advanced care.

Doctors later declared her brain dead. She died while receiving treatment, according to the information released by the family.

Authorities shifted her body to Gandhi Hospital, where doctors conducted a postmortem examination. The family will take her body to her native village for the final rites.

The Andhra Pradesh government has also responded to the incident. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu announced financial assistance of ₹20 lakh for Priyanka’s family.

Police had initially registered a case of attempt to murder against the accused. Following Priyanka’s death, authorities are expected to alter the charges to reflect the fatal outcome.

Priyanka’s father, Venkatesh, has also approached the police in Rajahmundry. He has sought stringent punishment for those responsible for his daughter’s death.

Minister Srihari said strong punishment could help prevent similar incidents in the future. He also reiterated that the Telangana government would stand by Priyanka’s family.

The case has drawn attention in Telangana because Priyanka was a medical student from the state. Further investigation will establish the precise circumstances of the crash and the legal responsibility of the accused.
