The earlier three-month deadline set by the court ended on October 31. Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar has now requested a two-month extension to complete the pending inquiries.

Hearings on MLA Disqualification Petitions to Resume This Week

So far, hearings for only four MLAs have been completed. In a key development, the Speaker has announced that proceedings on petitions filed by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) will resume this month.

According to the new schedule, hearings will be held on November 6, 7, 12, and 13.

The disqualification cases involve MLAs Dr. Sanjay, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Tellam Venkata Rao, and Arikepudi Gandhi. The Speaker’s office stated that petitioners will be examined first, followed by the cross-examination of respondents. Two cross-examinations will be conducted each day.

The petitions were originally filed by the BRS seeking disqualification of certain legislators who allegedly defected to other parties.

The Speaker’s move to resume the inquiry is seen as an important step toward concluding the long-pending issue in compliance with court directions. (Maxim News)
