Telangana Once Again Reaps National Awards

Delhi/Hyderabad, Nov 18 (Maxim News): Telangana has topped the country in the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari category. Telangana has secured the first rank at the national level in the 6th National Water Awards – 2024 announced by the Central Jal Shakti Ministry. Under this program launched by the Central Government in 2024, a total of 5,20,362 works have been completed across Telangana.

The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, today (Tuesday) presented awards to the states that have performed best in the Jal Sanchai Jan Bhagidari category. The Central Government has announced 100 awards to the states, districts and local bodies that have implemented Jal Sanchai Jan Bhagidari best. This includes three states, 67 districts, 6 municipal corporations, one urban local body, two partner ministries/departments, two industries, three NGOs, two donors and 14 nodal officers.

Launched with the aim of involving people, communities and corporates in water conservation at the grassroots level, the program has divided the states into five zones. Each zone has been set a target of constructing at least 10,000 artificial recharge and storage structures. This includes rooftop rainwater harvesting, ponds, cisterns and wells restoration programs. The best performing states, districts and municipal corporations have been divided into three categories and awards have been announced.

A cash prize of Rs. 2 crore was announced for those selected in the first category, Rs. 1 crore in the second category, and Rs. 25 lakh in the third category. In the district section, three districts were selected from the southern zone under category-1.. Telangana state won all three. Each district received a cash prize of Rs. 2 crore, for a total of Rs. 6 crore. Adilabad, Nalgonda, and Mancherial districts won this cash prize.

For taking water conservation measures in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area, the Hyderabad Metro Corporation Water Supply and Sewerage Board has secured the second rank in the Municipal Corporations category. It has won a cash prize of Rs. 2 crore. In this category, Warangal, Nirmal, Jangaon districts have secured the first three positions in the South Zone and have won a prize of Rs. 1 crore each.

In Category-3, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Mahabubnagar stood at 1st and 3rd ranks and received a cash prize of Rs. 25 lakh each. A. Satish of the Central Water Association, who acted as the nodal officer for Adilabad, Jagtial, Kamareddy, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Medak, Nirmal, Nizamabad and Sangareddy districts, also received an award. This was announced by the Public Relations Officer, Telangana Information Center, New Delhi.

  • B. Vijayendira, IAS, Collector, Mahabubnagar.
