Telangana SIR Survey | Hyderabad, June 20: Telangana has frozen its voter list ahead of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise scheduled to begin on June 25.
Election officials took the decision to ensure a smooth verification process. As a result, they will not add new voters until the completion of the survey.
Officials will use the existing electoral roll as the base document for the statewide revision. They believe this step will help avoid confusion during the verification process. Therefore, fresh voter registrations will remain on hold until the exercise ends.
Telangana SIR Survey | 3.40 Crore Voter Forms Ready
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has started printing nearly 3.40 crore voter enumeration forms. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will distribute these forms directly to households across Telangana.
Voters must fill in their personal details and return the forms to BLOs. After verification, officials will prepare a draft voter list. Subsequently, they will invite objections and claims before finalizing the electoral rolls.
Door to Door Verification from June 25
The Commission has planned the exercise in phases. Currently, officials are focusing on training, printing, and logistical preparations. These activities will continue until June 24.
Thereafter, BLOs will conduct door to door verification from June 25 to July 24. Officials will publish the draft voter list on July 31. They will then receive objections and suggestions until the end of August. Finally, they will release the final voter list on October 1.
Focus on Duplicate and Ineligible Voters
Officials have already completed nearly 70 percent voter mapping across the state. During the SIR exercise, they will verify the remaining records.
In addition, authorities will identify voters listed as absent, shifted, deceased, or duplicated. They will publish these details along with the draft electoral roll. Officials estimate that such entries may number in the lakhs across Telangana.
Special Kits for Nearly 36,000 BLOs
The Election Commission has also prepared special kits for 35,985 BLOs. These kits contain voter forms, awareness booklets, stationery, badges, caps, T shirts, and other field materials.
Moreover, officials have reportedly spent several crores of rupees on the statewide exercise. Authorities plan to send the kits to districts this week. Thereafter, district officials will distribute them to BLOs.
Concerns Over Public Information
However, concerns have emerged over the availability of SIR information on the Chief Electoral Officer Telangana website. Political parties and voter groups say the portal does not prominently display the SIR schedule, FAQs, voter guidance material, or BLO contact details.
Furthermore, several parties have started awareness campaigns across constituencies. They have also begun appointing Booth Level Agents to assist voters during the verification process.
Meanwhile, many voters remain concerned about the possibility of their names getting deleted from the rolls. Election officials, however, maintain that the exercise aims to improve accuracy and remove errors from the voter database.
Telangana SIR Survey Timeline
The Election Commission will complete preparation activities by June 24. Subsequently, BLOs will distribute forms and conduct verification from June 25 to July 24. Officials will publish the draft voter list on July 31. Finally, after examining claims and objections, they will release the final voter list on October 1.
