The detained individual was identified as Rizwan Ahmad, a resident of the Chhawani area in Padrauna town. According to Uttar Pradesh police, he came under the scanner during the probe led by the Special Cell. Therefore, a team was sent to trace and secure him.
Meanwhile, a 10 member team led by Inspector Nishant Dahiya reached Padrauna late on Saturday evening. With support from local police, they took Ahmad into custody without incident. Officials said coordination between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh police ensured swift action.
During the operation, the Special Cell seized Ahmad’s mobile phone, laptop, and other electronic devices. These items will now be examined for evidence. A Delhi Police source said the team had tracked Rizwan’s movements for a long time. Once his location in Kushinagar was confirmed, they dispatched a team
The source further said Ahmad has been apprehended and a significant amount of “incriminating material” has been recovered from him. However, officials have not yet disclosed specific details about the material or its nature.
Kushinagar Superintendent of Police Keshav Kumar said authorities are gathering information about Ahmad’s family members and contacts. He also stated that police have increased vigilance across the district as a precaution.
According to Uttar Pradesh police, Ahmad had gone to Mumbai nearly a decade ago in search of work. Additionally, phone records showed international calls and alleged links with ISIS.
Further investigation is ongoing, and officials are expected to examine all seized materials to establish the full extent of the suspected network.
