Hyderabad, Sept. 3: The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) found several food safety violations during raids at cafes and snack points in Hyderabad.
Nine enforcement teams comprising Food Safety Officers and police personnel inspected 19 establishments on Wednesday.
Officials found some establishments operating without valid FSSAI licences or registrations. They also reported poor hygiene, improper food storage and expired food products.
TG SAFE Finds Hygiene and Food Storage Lapses
The inspections found open dustbins, littering, houseflies and cockroach infestations at some establishments. Food handlers were also found working without headgear.
Officials found expired and spoiled food items and violations of food labelling and display rules. Some establishments could not produce required records.
These included FoSTaC training certificates, health records of food handlers and pest control documents.
Dreamz Cafeteria at Bagh Lingampally and Asiatic Café at Panjagutta were closed for operating without valid FSSAI licences or registrations.
The FSSAI licence of Shadab Hotel at Madina Building was suspended. The management was also directed to stop operations over multiple violations.
TG SAFE officials discarded perishable food exposed to dust and flies. They also seized tea powder, ginger garlic paste and biscuits suspected of adulteration.
Officials collected 15 food samples for analysis to check for possible adulteration.
Improvement notices will be issued to several establishments, including Café Persia, Bahar Biryani Café, Café Deccan, Honeymoon Café, Rio Restaurant, Aaromale Hospitality and Friends and Café.
Notices will also cover Diamond Point Hotel, Hotel Imroz, Blue Sea Tea and Snacks, Nimra Café and Bakery and Gulzar Foods.
Show cause notices are being issued to Golden Café, Dreamz Cafeteria, Mirosa Café and Kitchen, Asiatic Café and Shadab Hotel.
Further action, including penalties, will depend on the inspection findings and subsequent compliance.
TG SAFE officials said establishments served with improvement notices will be re inspected to verify compliance with food safety norms.
