Kolkata, June 8: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is facing fresh political turbulence amid reports of growing dissent within the party, with more than 20 Lok Sabha MPs allegedly submitting a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
According to party sources, the developments follow the resignation of senior TMC leader Sukhendu Shekhar Roy from the Rajya Sabha, adding to speculation about internal divisions within the party.
Sources indicated that a group of MPs is exploring the possibility of forming a separate bloc in Parliament. Reports suggest that discussions have taken place among dissenting leaders regarding their future political course.
The reported move comes amid claims that a sufficient number of MPs have expressed support for a separate grouping. However, there has been no official confirmation from the party leadership regarding the development.
Adding to the speculation, TMC Lok Sabha MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar reportedly claimed that around 20 MPs were prepared to support the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). She also stated that a communication had been submitted to Speaker Om Birla regarding their position.
According to reports, a group of TMC MPs met Sukhendu Shekhar Roy in New Delhi before holding discussions with Union Minister Bhupender Yadav. The meetings have intensified political debate over the future of the party’s parliamentary strength.
The reported developments have triggered widespread discussion in political circles. However, official statements from the TMC leadership on the claims are still awaited.
Further clarity is expected in the coming days as the situation unfolds.
