Kolkata, June 2: Speculation over a possible split in the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has intensified following the expulsion of two party MLAs and reports of growing dissent within the organisation in West Bengal.
The TMC recently expelled MLAs Sandipan Saha and Ritabrata Banerjee, citing alleged anti party activities. The action has fueled discussions about internal divisions within the ruling party.
According to reports, several rebel leaders have been holding meetings in Kolkata in recent weeks. Political observers claim discussions have focused on the possibility of launching a separate political outfit under the name “Real Trinamool.”
However, no official announcement has been made regarding the formation of a new party. There has also been no formal confirmation from the alleged rebel group.
Sources indicate that dissident leaders are attempting to build support among legislators and party members dissatisfied with the current leadership.
The speculation gained momentum after a recent TMC Legislature Party meeting reportedly witnessed low attendance. Reports suggest that only 19 MLAs attended the meeting held at the residence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while a large number of legislators remained absent.
Political analysts believe the developments could signal growing unrest within the party. However, the exact strength of the dissident group and its future plans remain unclear.
Neither the TMC leadership nor the expelled MLAs have officially commented on reports regarding the proposed “Real Trinamool” formation.
