At that time, it seems that farmers expressed concern over rice imported from India. Along with India, many Asian countries supply rice to the US. The Republican leader said that domestic producers are facing problems due to agricultural imports. However, he said that the tariff policy will be implemented aggressively to solve that problem. Trump said that about 12 billion dollars collected through trade taxes will be spent for the welfare of American farmers. Treasury Secretary Scott Besant and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins participated in the discussion with representatives of farmer associations.

India is number one in rice production. 150 billion tons are being produced. India’s share in the global market is 28 percent. India is also at the top in rice exports. India accounted for 30.3 percent of global exports in the 2024-25 season. According to the India Brand Equity Foundation report, 2.34 lakh tons of rice were supplied to the US. West Asian countries are at the top among the importers of Indian rice. There is full demand for the Sona Masuri variety of rice in the US and Australia. The Trump government is already imposing 50 percent tariffs on Indian products. It is known that Trump imposed an additional 25 percent tariff on oil purchases from Russia. (Maxim News)
