Hyderabad, Sept.28 (Maxim News): The 1st meeting of Regional Monitoring Committee (South) under the chairmanship of Justice P. Jyothimani on implementation of orders of National Green Tribunal on Solid Waste Management rules, 2016 was convened at Secretariat, Chennai today. The meeting was attended by Principal Secretaries of MA&UD department of all Southern States and Union territories. Harmander Singh IAS Principal Secretary, Tami Nadu, was the Member-convener of the meeting.
The issues relating to Solid waste managements and best practices in the southern States was discussed in the meeting. Telangana was represented by Arvind Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary, MAUD department and other officers of the State delegation included Dr. TK Sreedevi, IAS Director of Municipal administration, Ravi Kiran ZC, South zone GHMC & Viswanath, CE PCB.
Arvind Kumar took this opportunity and explained the best practices taken up in the State of Telangana. Some of the salient points included improvement in sanitation through Swachh Autos in GHMC, capping of Jawahar Nagar dump yard, introduction of e-autos for door-to-door collection, signing an MoU with QCI (Quality Control of India) to monitor Implementation of SWM Rules and that Telangana is the only State in the country to have introduced a policy on Faecal Sludge & Septage Management and also bring out its own policy in Solid Waste Management. Kumar further requested that NGT to take it up with GOI to earmark dedicated funds under 15th Finance Commission for SWM activities to implement the SWM rules 2016 in letter and spirit. He also presented policy copies of State Municipal Solid Waste Management and State Faecal sludge Management policy to the Justice P. Jyothimani during the meeting. (Maxim News)
