Hyderabad, July 14: The Vanasthalipuram Police have arrested two persons for allegedly robbing an intoxicated man of Rs 1,000 and his mobile phone before fatally assaulting him with a stone in Hyderabad.
The murder, which came to light on July 12, was solved with the help of CCTV footage, enabling police to trace and arrest the accused.
The arrested persons have been identified as:
- Sriramulu, a rowdy-sheeter
- Narasimha, a hearing and speech-impaired man
Both are residents of Auto Nagar, Vanasthalipuram.
According to police, Sriramulu had consumed toddy at a toddy compound near Sushma on Saturday night before meeting Narasimha at a nearby wine shop.
The duo allegedly spotted an intoxicated man, followed him, and waited until he fell asleep near a petrol bunk.
Police said the accused allegedly stole Rs 1,000 in cash and the victim’s mobile phone. When the victim woke up and confronted them, an argument ensued.
Fearing that the victim would alert others, the suspects allegedly struck him on the head with a stone before fleeing the scene. The victim later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators examined CCTV footage from surveillance cameras in the area, identified the suspects, and arrested them.
Police have registered a case and are continuing the investigation to determine whether the accused were involved in any other criminal activities.
