Hyderabad, July 14: Congress MLC Vijayashanti on Monday expressed concern over women’s safety in Telangana and urged the state government to take stringent action against those responsible for alleged lapses in a POCSO case.
Her remarks came in the wake of a case involving an accused who was granted bail and was later allegedly involved in a multiple murder incident.
Speaking to the media, Vijayashanti alleged that police negligence led to the release of the POCSO accused on bail.
She further alleged that police personnel had accepted a bribe from the accused and facilitated his release. These allegations have not been independently verified, and there has been no official confirmation from the police regarding the claims.
Expressing concern over the incident, Vijayashanti said she was deeply saddened that six people allegedly lost their lives following the accused’s release.
The Congress leader urged the state government to thoroughly investigate the matter, identify those responsible for any lapses, and ensure strict legal action.
She also stressed the need to strengthen measures for women’s safety and maintain law and order across the state.
Vijayashanti’s remarks have triggered political discussion, with opposition parties continuing to target the state government over law and order issues.
The Telangana government and police have not yet issued an official response to her allegations at the time of publication.
