Two held for running fake Customer Care Call Center

Hyderabad, Oct.4 (NSS): City cyber crime police, detective section, apprehended two accused identified as Mohammad Saleem and Mohammad Arifat, residing at Plot No 13, Kurma Nagar, Ramathapur, for running a fake Customer Care Call Center in Cr.No. 1722/2022 U/Sec 66 C, D IT Act and Sec 419, 420 IPC.

The modus operandi of the accused Mohammad Saleem and Mohammad Arif was they jointly created fake google maps in the name of Samsung, LG, Godrej, and Whirlpool brands in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Noida, Vizag, Bangalore and some places in India. Ads of their locations were uploaded and were made them to appear in the first option when searched in google thereby directing the calls to their numbers.

To receive all these calls, about 555 phones were set up in their fake call centre and about 1000 SIM cards were used in them. These mobile numbers were uploaded in Google Maps and a fake servicing center was shown to exist in the name of branded companies like “Sky Line Customer Care Repair Servicing Center and IFB 1 Global Techno Service” in Ramanthapur. The accused hired some technicians, the calls received from the customers,areforwardedto their technicianswho in turn reach the customer’s address, as if they were from original brand Service Centre and thereby cheated the customers. Such customers are charged Rs 2,500 to Rs 5,000 for each repair which is 30 to 40% above the price charged by the original call centres.

The police seized basic mobile phones from the accused – 555 and two smart phones. The operation was carried out under the supervision of ACP KVM Prasad and the team led by D. Dasru, Inspector of Police, PCs Thirumalesh, Upender and Sridhara Chary, the accused were arrested at plot no. 13, Kurma Nagar, Ramanthapur, Hyderabad. (NSS)
