Hyderabad, May 27: Unseasonal rains accompanied by strong winds caused heavy damage to paddy, maize and other agricultural produce across several districts of Telangana, leaving farmers worried over mounting losses.

Agricultural market yards and procurement centres in multiple districts were affected after overnight rainfall soaked stored grain stocks awaiting procurement.

According to reports, paddy and maize stocks stored in open yards were drenched in districts including Karimnagar, Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda, Rajanna Sircilla, Adilabad, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri and Nagarkurnool.

Farmers said grain heaps became wet and softened due to continuous rainfall over the past two days, raising fears of quality deterioration and financial losses.

The situation was particularly severe in market yards at Vemulawada, Satnala mandal, Mediguda and Turkapalli, where procurement operations were reportedly disrupted.

Many farmers expressed frustration, stating they had already been waiting for weeks to sell their produce at procurement centres.

The unexpected rains further worsened conditions for cultivators who were depending on timely procurement payments after harvest season.
